Badge for digital measurement - web site measurement
We decided to make available the badge hosted on our corporate site, which automatically calculates and displays the carbon emissions of a web user's browsing.
According to ADEME, the French agency for ecological transition, ‘digital technology is responsible for 3.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and the massive increase in its use could double this carbon footprint by 2025. For example, the average French citizen owns 15 pieces of connected equipment, well above the global average of 8. What's more, a digital device has significant ecological impacts throughout its lifespan: from manufacture to end of life, including use.’
In this context, DK, aware of these issues and having already developed an eco-responsible website, has decided to deploy its badge, which measures in real time the impact of a user's browsing on a website or blog.
Methods of implementation
The badge can be added to any website, in footer, full or compact mode, to automatically calculate and display the carbon emissions of each page.
-Simple installation via Github, npm or CDN
-Data and formula developed by DK
-The first calculation is performed 500 ms after the initial loading of the page has been detected. It is then re-triggered every 5 seconds
-Can be customised to your graphic charter
-Privacy by Design: no data collection

We hope that this badge will raise awareness of carbon emissions on digital properties by enabling any website to display a calculation of its users' carbon emissions.
We're aware that the badge itself has an impact on carbon emissions, so we've designed it to be as light as possible.
